Benjamin's Baby Shower Cake

Let's preface this with me saying that I was not ASKED to make my own baby shower cake, I requested that I be allowed to make the cake. Because it is rare that I get to pick out the concept for a cake, I am usually working within parameters- which is great, but this was a treat.

The shower theme was "baby woodland animals," and this is what I came up with.

  

A baby in a fox "costume" on a bed of leaves, all on a "stump" of a cake covered in vines and little blue flowers.

I had fun putting the "growth rings" on the top, and left room for the monogram of little Mr. Benjamin Douglas White.

It was fun not to have to smooth the sides of the cake, a little therapeutic even to make "rough" icing.

A close up of the little baby, with his faux fox fur (which is so fun to say, haha). Completely edible, but I wouldn't let Ben sample him after he was removed from the cake, that just seemed too weird.

Baby Bottom Cake

Request for a shower cake for Baby Emma.

Yellow cake, buttercream icing. I used "cake ball" filling for the legs (didn't want that much fondant just plopped on there) and covered them with fondant. Then fondant feet, teeny toes, and blanket.

Added Emma's initial  to her "blanket" with piping to mimic embroidery

This order included 2 dozen cookies- little pink onesies with ruffle collars.

Rubber Ducky, You're the One!

Request for a 2 tiered cake with a baby clothesline, washtub, and rubber ducky.

Hello Mr. Ducky! All dressed up for the party with your little bow tie and sparkly bubbles.

Had fun making the teeny clothes: little bitty overalls, baby shirts with bottle graphics, shorts.

Personalized the onesies for Baby Colton & all babies need a bib.

One more look at the finished cake. Got word that it was a hit at the shower!

Pardon the pictures without my usual backdrop, it has rained here every day for several weeks and the couple of miles of dirt road that I live down are mud- I stacked this cake at my mother's house before delivery.

Pink Baby Shower Cake & Cookies

Tiered yellow cake with pink buttercream, with mmf dots, bows, and lettering.

This order was for a BIG baby shower, I made 5 dozen cookies and a 3 tier cake.

Little pink onesie cookies, with an "A" for Addison.

Bottom Tier detail. Tiny bows went around the cake, with this sparkly name plate for Ms. Addison.

Middle tier detail. Cake was surrounded with multicolored dots.

Top tier detail. Onesie outline, I later added the baby's monogram, but forgot to snap a picture.

To complete the story- unfortunately this cake was delivered on a day when we were experiencing road work (on our mile long dirt driveway) and rain for several days in a row. All the jiggling and jostling did not allow the bottom tier to survive the mud bog that was necessary to leave my house. I was able to salvage the top 2 tiers without a problem, and the good news is that there was plenty of cake at the party- there were even leftovers! 

*Lesson Learned. Cakes taller than 2 tiers will be assembled on site when at all possible.

Baby Shower Cake- Averi

A Baby Shower cake for Miss Averi Byrd, for her Mommy's baby shower. Can't wait to meet her soon!

 

Yellow Cake, Cream Cheese Icing, Royal icing stars, fondant cutout "A", and candy Sixlet trim.

The letter, paint splatters, and stars all came from the shower invitation.

First "Belly Cake"

I was super excited, and a little nervous for an order for my first belly cake, complete with pink Realtree camo on the 'shirt'

This is also the first time using fondant to completely cover a cake, it worked out really well- not as scary as I thought

Covered the torso separate from the base cake, let it set, & painted the camo with food-coloring before adding to the base.

I really like how the bow turned out too.

Ta-dah! Pregnant Belly Cake. I am looking forward to having more orders for these!

I made the cute little owl transfers separate and placed them on the wet cookie icing.

And one "Thank you" cookie per bag.

A Sneaky Announcement

This is my 100th post to the cake blog, and I have saved that honor for a special announcement...My mother's birthday is 2/27, and this year my husband and I invited our immediate families over for a big birthday dinner. After dinner it was time for cake...

We presented this cake, with lit candles....

After the initial shock, my mother read the cake aloud to the rest of the family- the perfect announcement for all the Soon-To-Be Grandparents!

Gender Reveal Cake

My first ever gender reveal cake! Will it be for a boy or girl?

The parents already knew the gender, so their son got to cut the cake!

Everyone is excited for the news!!!

It's a girl, YAY!

A lot of pink in that cake! I wanted to make sure it was dramatic enough, haha.

Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Byrd on the announcement of their little girl!

Baby Shower, Pink Dress

This is the invitation used as the inspiration for a baby shower cake

Made a pink, marshmallow fondant little baby dress on a hanger, similar to the one on the invitation.

Finished cake, with silver pearl border, pink pearls sprinkled over the cake, and the pretty little baby dress.
